PLAYERS IN

The Reading manager Brian McDermott has said that he is keen to bring in a few players in the January transfer window who will be capable of adding experience to the squad. Reading are struggling in the Premier league both at home and away matches.

McDermott has said that this has been partly because of the lack of experience with the team. Hence, he will be looking to bring in a few players who were well versed with playing in the top flight of English football. He also confirmed that any signings that the club makes in January will be made with a long-term option in mind rather than just surviving in the Premier league this season.

It is expected that McDermott will be making moves for three players once the transfer window opens on January 1. The Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone is at the top of the list, while the other players are Liverpool’s Joe Cole and the Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson. The England international Tom Huddlestone has fallen behind Mousa Dembele and Sandro in the pecking order. In order to force his way into the England fold, he needs to play on a regular basis. Hence, Tottenham are thought to be willing to consider a loan move till the end of the season for the midfielder.

“I feel strongly we need to sign two or three players with Premier League experience, who know what it is like to play in this league. January is a hard window but we have been planning for some time and will make some signings,” said the Reading manager. Huddlestone has played in almost 150 Premier league matches for Tottenham. He was one of the first-team regulars under Harry Redknapp, but has found first-team opportunities limited under the current manager Andre Villas-Boas.
